Friedrich-Abel-Gymnasium

Schoolyard roofing

AR Ingenieure was commissioned to design a canopy for the schoolyard of the Friedrich-Abel-Gymnasium in Vaihingen an der Enz, which was redesigned in 2010. For this purpose, an arched membrane roof with 5 bays was designed, which follows the lines of the step system. The steel frames are braced against each other for transverse bracing directly below the roof level. The frame stems are screwed to the precast concrete steps so that these act as the foundation for the roof. A TiO2-coated PVC polyester fabric is used as roof cladding, which has a high and so far reliable self-cleaning effect.
