The Dubai Mall in Burj Dubai extends over an area of approx. 800,000 m² and will take the place of the world's largest shopping centre after its completion in 2006. The central mall is spanned by a 212 m long roof that can be opened in segments. The mobile roof segments covered with a glass fibre fabric are staggered in height and can be moved to defined positions one above the other. The change from closed to open street space is fully automatically controlled and takes only a few minutes.
