NatureTheatre Bad Elster
Spectator roof
Planning for the convertible roof over the auditorium began in early 2018. At the same time, the spectator area was completely restructured with the construction of a grandstand building in solid construction, which will house a catering area in addition to technical and sanitary facilities. The seating capacity thus increases from 1088 to 1530 seats.
Due to the elongated layout of the facility, a linearly movable roof was designed for the spectator area. The roof is formed by a total of eight arches supported on rails, which span a saddle-shaped membrane surface at a centre distance of 5.95 m. The two rails are connected directly to the stage roof at the foot of the slope and run parallel up the slope to just behind the grandstand building. The 48 m long rails rest on four supports. The bracing of the columns ensures the stiffening of the roof in longitudinal and transverse direction.
The requirements in this project are characterized by the best possible combination of design, static and especially technical aspects. Careful coordination of the interplay of the kinematic and static requirements was necessary to guarantee the faultless operation of the completed facility, which was completed on schedule for the 2018 season and handed over to Chursächsiche Veranstaltungs GmbH.
